SBCA announces July housing starts and building permit data, now available online. Below is a summary.

U.S.
July housing starts (released August 16) decreased 4.8% to 1,155,000 units. Single-family starts decreased 0.5% to 856,000 units, while multi-family decreased by 15.3% to 299,000 units. Total U.S. permits, an indicator of future construction, decreased by 4.1% to 1,223,000 units (SAAR).

Starts decreased in 3 regions:

• Northeast (- 15.7%)
• Midwest (- 15.2%)
• South (+ 0.6%)
• West (- 1.6%)
