SBCA is pleased to announce the December housing starts and building permit data is now available online! Below is a summary.

U.S.

December housing starts (released January 18) decreased 8.2% to 1,192,000 units. Single-family starts decreased 11.8% to 836,000 units, while multi-family increased by 1.4% to 356,000 units. Total U.S. permits, an indicator of future construction, decreased by 0.1% to 1,302,000 units (SAAR).

Starts decreased in all regions:

• Northeast (- 4.3%)
• Midwest (- 2.2%)
• South (- 14.2%)
• West (- 0.9%)
